Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing oversight, medication administration, and coordination of resident care services within the Basic Care Facility. The RN ensures that residents receive appropriate care consistent with their needs while maintaining compliance with applicable state regulations and facility policies.

This position focuses on medication management, resident assessment, staff support, and care coordination, rather than skilled nursing services, and plays a key role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and well-functioning residential environment. The RN is expected to support efficient operations by working within established staffing models and collaborating with leadership to ensure appropriate use of clinical resources.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Care and Clinical Oversight

  • Perform resident assessments and monitor changes in condition.
  • Participate in the development and review of resident service plans.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, pharmacies, and outside providers.
  • Monitor residents for health concerns and respond appropriately.
  • Ensure timely communication regarding resident status changes.

Medication Administration

  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
  • Maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs).
  • Monitor for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and documentation of medications.

Staff Support and Supervision

  • Provide guidance and support to CNAs and direct care staff.
  • Answer clinical questions and assist with care-related decision-making.
  • Support training and onboarding of staff as needed.
  • Promote adherence to care standards and proper procedures.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care and services.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements and facility policies.
  • Assist with preparation for inspections, surveys, and audits.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities.

Communication and Resident Relations

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Address resident concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.

Emergency Response

  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate care.
  • Coordinate emergency services when necessary.
  • Document incidents and follow reporting procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing principles and medication administration practices.
  • Understanding of basic care or assisted living regulations preferred.
  • Ability to assess resident conditions and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to supervise and support direct care staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in North Dakota.
  • 1–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, assisted living, or residential settings.
  • Supervisory experience considered a plus.
  • Experience with medication administration and resident care coordination.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain electronic or paper records.
  • Ability to pass background screening as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist residents as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a residential care setting with frequent interaction with residents, staff, and visitors. The position may require weekend, evening, or holiday shifts depending on scheduling needs.
